Around the yard

Felicity's Dad has a job as a VPSO. That means Village Public Safety Officer. Here in Alaska there are a lot of Native Villages and the villages have the option of getting a VPSO assigned to them.

This is his 1rst vehicle

This is his 2nd vehicle

This is his current vehicle.

These are some old snow shoes

These are some antlers and an old saw blade on the front of our house.

Wrangell Mountains

Stopped by a popular tourist photo spot and showed Hayzel which mountains were which.

It was a bit cloudy but you can see Mt Drum is the bright white one. =)

Getting Water

Where we live there is no running water. We have to go and get our water from a public well.
This is the tank we put into the back of the truck to go pick up water.

The water cost $3 for 100 gallons.

Hayzel helped put the quarters into the slot

Then we hook the hose to the tank and the well pump and it pumps the water in.

Oh no! The water overfilled and Hayzel got a tiny bit wet.

When we get back to the house, we connect the hose to our tank in the garage and transfer the water from the truck to the tank in the garage. We use a tiny pump for the last bit at the bottom. That water then can be filtered and goes through the pipes in the house. We use it for showers, flushing toilets, cooking, washing dishes, doing laundry, watering the plants and animals, and anything else we need water from. Felicity's Mom and Dad usually buy gallon jugs of distilled water for drinking because they don't like the taste of the well water, but Felicity and Hayzel don't mind the taste and drink straight from the tap.

Cutting Wood

On Thursday we cut more wood to prepare for winter.

This is Hayzel with a chain saw. He thought it was a little bit too loud.

We use the chainsaw on this bench. We lay a tree across it. We cut the tree into logs.

This is an axe. We use the axe to split the logs into pieces that will burn well.

You can see here the big round logs are before and the split pieces are after. The stump where Hayzel and Felicity are sitting is where we split the logs.

Felicity's Mom accidentally cut her leg on a rusty piece of metal so we had to get her a Tetanus shot. Ouch.

Yesterday Hazel went to the Farmer's Market with us. He got to watch blueberry vinegar being made. He helped us sell our bags of Rhubarb. Our dog even had a kissing booth as a joke. My phone was dead so I did not get any pictures! Whoops. But here is a picture someone sent me of Midori.

Hazel helped us get a head of broccoli.
He saw some of the crafts I make from cans and thought they were neat. Here is a picture from a different week.

Felicity paints and sells her paintings.
Next week I will make sure the phone is charged so we can get pictures of Hazel enjoying the day.
He had fun and tried some tomato basil soup.

Hazel did a little dance.

Hazel has green shoes and Midori the dog's name means green in Japanese.

Look at all this wood stacked up. Hazel will probably go back home before it gets cold enough to need this wood.
Hazel got to help Felicity with schoolwork.
This is Felicity's Mom shaking hands with Hazel and saying "Nice to meet you!"
Uh oh... is this a zombie family? Nope, these pictures are just for fun!
Looking through the binoculars to he if he can spot any moose or bears.
